I felt fine for the first couple of weeks, then around the 7th week the morning sickness started to creep in like I assumed it would. The first trimester is purely horrible.....exhaustion and sickness. It's even worse when I just started a new full time job and have two kids at home. Thankfully, at 16 weeks now, things are starting to get back to normal. Strange nauseous times still come (like a 24 hour period a few days ago....terrible!), but I think overall things are improving. I had my first appointment at 8 weeks on August 25th and only talked to the nurse about my history and what to expect. I had my first appointment with the doctor and hear baby's heartbeat at 12 weeks on September 5th. It took a freakishly long time to find the heartbeat with the Doppler on my stomach for the first time. Finally, she found it - 173 beats per minute! The little one seemed to be jumping around a bit and it was hard to keep on it. The doctor did her exam and then they actually did a quick ultrasound just to verify dates - baby measured 11 weeks 6 days at 12 weeks exactly - basically perfect! It was so crazy to actually see a baby-shaped image on the screen at only 12 weeks. I just had my second check up at 16 weeks - heartbeat was 148 beats per minute and things seemed good! We are headed back in one month for our big ultrasound and another check up.
After the successful 12 week appointment we told the kids and let the grandparents start telling people. Gabrielle saw my ultrasound picture and she said "look it's me!" since she's seen her ultrasound pictures before. And I told her "no, that's not you...this picture was taken today at my doctor appointment". She was really quiet for the second while she figured it out. I told her mommy was going to have another baby! First she was disappointed and said "I don't want to have to sit in the way back of the car!". That was the first thing she could think of, haha. But very quickly she got very excited and HOPES that it's a girl!!! We told Oliver and he said "I want a Thomas the Train baby!". Gabs checks my belly everyday to see how big it's getting. Another perk for her - we let her choose whether she wanted to keep her room and have the baby's room be the toy room or whether she wanted to move into the toy room - to my surprise, she wants to move into the toy room. A good decision I think.
My work was very supportive and I just moved to part time - 3 days per week. We are looking forward to our new addition but strongly suggesting to him/her to go with the flow of our busy family! Third babies can't be high maintenance, right??
How far along?: 16 weeks
Total weight gain: 4lbs. Between 12-16 weeks I started gaining.....a pound per week!
How big is baby?: 5 ounces, 4-5 inches long
Maternity clothes?: All pants at this point, but regular shirts. I did the Bella Band with my regular pants for a bit, but just going to maternity clothes is so much easier!
Stretch marks? Nope!
Sleep?: For many weeks, all I wanted to do was sleep, but now it seems I'm not sleeping very soundly at night which makes for very tiring days.
Best moment this week?: Hearing baby's heartbeat for the 2nd time and announcing the pregnancy to everyone!
Movement?: Nope, but I can't wait! I'm hoping in the next few weeks I can start feeling movements like I did with Oliver. With Gabrielle I couldn't feel anything until 22 weeks!
Food cravings?: Now that I'm feeling better, no big cravings....just trying to eat healthier than 1st trimester when I lived off of noodles, mashed potatoes, peanut butter and juice.
Labor signs?: No thanks.
Belly button in or out? Innie.
What I miss: Not feeling chubby and tired. Oh well! It's the last baby, so I better enjoy it! :)
What I'm looking forward to: Our ultrasound next month!!!! Hoping to see that everything is healthy and developing well. Oh yeah.......and to see if we will add a little pink or blue tie breaker to this family!
| Holy cow! No doubt there..... |
