Interactive Baby

Gabrielle is becoming so interactive and like a big girl more all the time!  Although she isn't using much language you can tell that she is understanding a lot.  I talk to her a lot during the day and I feel like she is "getting it" much of the time - like I can actually communicate with her.  Things are really starting to click in her little brain and I see it every day.  She will crawl over to a sock on the floor, pick up her foot with one hand, and hold the sock up to her foot with the other hand like "hey, I know what to do with this thing!".  Also, when I am holding her and giving her a bottle she will suddenly pull the bottle out of her mouth and shove it in my face for me to have a turn and drink.  I'll pretend to drink for a little bit and she'll just smile and laugh and then she'll take it back to drink some more.  She'll "give me a turn" a few more times during that feeding until she is finished...silly girl!  Another new thing we're working on is I'll ask "Can I have a kiss?" and she'll lean in and nuzzle her cheek or open mouth (ewww) on my cheek. :)  All of that, however, is contingent upon her having nothing better to do at the moment like climb in the dishwasher or chase a cat up the stairs.

Those are a couple of her main forms of entertainment right now.  She isn't very interested in her toys and would much rather crawl around, get into our things (aka - stuff she shouldn't have), climb stairs, play in the dirt and mulch outside, etc.  She is very interested in anything Nick or I do and the things we have, so God forbid she be distracted with her silly baby toys and misses something cool that she could get into!  Yes, a lot of her toys are little baby toys that probably aren't the most interesting to her anymore, but with her birthday and Christmas coming up in the next couple of months I hate to get much new for her right this moment other than gifts for those occasions.

I think this may also be the calm before the storm, because Gabi has all but abandoned her baby walkers and is on total strike from attempting to walk in any way.  She probably could have started walking about a month ago but she is dead set on avoiding it as long as possible.  She will find a toy she wants to hang on to but she will also want to change locations, so she's developed this pathetic and inefficient little three-appendage scoot [hanging on to the toy with one arm and scooting with the other arm and two legs].  It's a sad sight but she is happy with it for the time being.  The most I've seen her walk all by herself is three solid steps in a row...that was last Saturday at G&G Taylors.  There were three of us on the floor nagging Gabi to try and walk.  She finally stood there for a while and then took three steps toward me and sat down....totally emotionless with a grumpy look on her face like "there, you happy now?".  We all were cheering for her but she wasn't thrilled.  She still loves to cruise on furniture and everything else, but actual walking is totally not interesting anymore.  Like I said, the calm before the storm.

Another new mommy lesson I've learned is hold off the yummy foods for as long as you can....because if you give it to them once that is all they'll want!  Ahhhh!!!!  Why did I give her Goldfish Crackers??  She used to LOVE Cheerios.  Be OBSESSED with Cheerios.  Then one day the wise mother thought she would switch it up a bit and give the baby some Goldfish Crackers.  Bad idea.....now all Gabrielle wants is Goldfish Crackers and the Cheerios get thrown on the floor.  Oy.  I think the Goldfish may be going away for a while until Ms. Attitude gets her attitude in check.

In totally hypocritical and related subject, but something I thought was worth saying............

Gabi is doing really well with her eating and most of the time is very open to most all foods.  She does have her days, however, where she doesn't want anything to do with food accept for something very particular.  Like today, for example.  I gave her Cheerios, veggies, black beans and bread (all of which she usually loves, by the way) and the abundance of hysterics that came out of the that child was unbelievable!.  Food throwing, screaming, snot flying hysterics.  Then I gave her cheese.  ALL she wanted was cheese and water.  Ok....cheese and water it was.  She sounds like a brat and I'm the wussy mother that gave in, you say?  Not really.  You have to give the kid credit...most of the time she is a great eater will eat most anything - taco meat, kidney beans, artichokes, spinach, broccoli, spaghetti, you name it.  She's entitled to a picky eating day now and then I think :)

That's all for now folks.  Hopefully I'll get the chance to take some picture in the next few days!
