His six month check up went well at the doctor. His eczema/rash was horrible a couple of weeks ago and his pedi suggested I stop eating nuts. I did, and unfortunately his rash has vastly improved. She wants him to have a blood test to test for nut allergies when he gets closer to a year old. The test will give an idea at least if and/or how severe an allergy he might have. Nothing for sure, but it's under suspicion.
- Has his first TWO teeth. Both bottom teeth came through at the same time on the way up to the UP on April 13th at 5m 1w . Poor guy. And he's doing as well as I expected with it....which isn't so great.
- Stayed in his first hotel rooms on our trip too, both in Mackinaw City and Gaylord.
- Discovered his tongue and loves to stick it waaaaay out and yell.
- Also found his feet this month and loves to play with those. He always tries to stick them in his mouth too....but I think he's the only baby I know that can't. His big belly, short (?) legs, and his lack of flexibility lead to a bit of frustration :/
- Love to bash rattles around and play with toys that crunch and crinkle.
- He's sitting up indepently well now, though we still like to keep a pillow behind him to minimize the cry time if/when he eventually tips over.
- Squeals, screeches, and yells.
- Size 3 diapers and mostly all 9 month clothes.
- Goes to bed about 8:30pm and gets up around 7:30am. Still wakes up two times per night to eat. Sometimes more if he's hot, teething, or anything.
- Usually still takes 3 naps a day. Once in a while two....once in a while four. This kid definitely isn't on a schedule. Kid #2 has to go with the flow a little bit.....and he does.
- Still doesn't roll over. I know he COULD, he just really detests being on his back or his belly. Wants to be sitting up or held all the time.
- Still exclusively breastfed. And of course once I stated that we had gotten to the easy stage of nursing, I got mastitis again about a week ago. Ugh. I was in my friend Jen's wedding last week and was pumping for three days while we were gone - not sure if I got messed up with that? Oh well, I'm a pro at detecting it right away (pain, fever, chills, aches) and self-treated with an extra course of antibiotics the pharmacy gave me last time I had it.
- We tried introducing oatmeal a couple of weeks ago....and he just really isn't into it. He'll take a couple little bites and completely lose interest and avoid the spoon. Weird. We tried sweet potatoes and peas and it has been the same reaction. We are thinking of skipping the purees and taking the Baby Lead Weaning approach - letting him explore chunks of real food and learning to eat that way. Nick gave him a strawberry last night and helped hold it while Oliver sucked and gummed it. He loved it and ate a couple of half strawberries! [Yes, I know strawberries are allergenic foods but Nick let him eat it before I could say anything. But he's not allergic to strawberries - yay!]
- Loves his fuzzy brown and blue square blanket - that's his only comfort. I haven't had to bounce or rock him to sleep lately because he can calm down and put himself to sleep if he has that blanket.
- Is very social and loves when people talk to him. If he's upset, even a stranger can start smiling and talking to him and he calms right down and eats up the attention. Very rarely he has stranger anxiety, but not often yet.

His first food - oatmeal!
He thought it was ok!
First real summer outfit! Spring has sprung!
His first big boy bath. Our water isn't really that gross....we put oatmeal in his bath to help his eczema.
His first sippy cup with water. He actually really liked it and threw a fit when I took it away!
