Oliver's first UP trip

We did it. My mom and I drove about 450 miles each way to UP to see my family and have Oliver meet everyone...including great grandpa Oliver.  I knew the trip was going to be hard....and it was.  No major disasters, but nothing went too smoothly either.  We took two days traveling each way.  Oliver doesn't like his car seat.  And he doesn't like to be in the car.  And well......he didn't do so well traveling.  When he was crying I reached back and put my finger in his mouth to try and soothe him and felt a little pin prick in there...........he was cutting his first tooth.  That night when I looked and felt again it was actually his first TWO teeth on the bottom.  We stayed in Mackinaw City going up - my mom found a great suite with two rooms together for a really cheap rate.  It would have worked great, except Gabs couldn't stand to sleep in the room with Grandma while Oliver and I were next door.....so Gabs and I shared a bed with Oliver in the other bed and Grandma got a whole room to herself.

The next day was filled with more crying, a blowout that required a clothes change (Oliver), and an emergency poop on the side of the road (Gabrielle).  We made it to Aunt Kathy's and got to visit with her, Uncle Dick, Brian, Avery, and Ian for a bit before going to last hour to Grandpa's house.
The weather was not so good - snow, ice, and wind.  We had to delay our trip a couple of days since a huge snow and ice storm was going through but we still caught the tail end of it.
Gabs did great sleeping in her own room at Grandpa's and Oliver did ok.

We visited Grandpa at his new home -  the Medicare assisted living facility.  It was a very nice place with very nice staff.  Grandpa is doing well there and likes the food and the whirlpool baths :)  He loved seeing the kids and holding Oliver while we were there.  Our visits went really well - I was a little worried about Gabi being scared/bored/etc when we were there, but she held it together pretty well and provided some entertainment for Grandpa and the staff.

Oliver really liked all of the people on the trip, but was a little thrown off with all of the changes and the teeth coming through.  Gabs loved all the people too and didn't want to come home, haha.  She enjoyed the trip.  We had a good visit and then we made our way home.  We took two days to get back but we made it!

Oliver liked sucking on Grandpa's hands, but he had to be careful since he was cutting his first two teeth!

The ball was a big hit with both kids.  Too bad we couldn't fit it in the car to bring home :/ Seriously.
