Gabi finally had her ophthalmologist appointment in GR last week. I'm very glad we went. No surgery, bifocal, or prism lenses. BUT, she put Gabi in a full prescription so she is in +6 and +7 lenses now. When she first started out she was in +2.5 and +3.5 lenses (50% of her deficit). They're moved her script up twice since then and now the third time to the full deficit. The doctor said that it would probably take a year to "heal" her eyes and her brain from not having the proper support she needed (something a mom is so not thrilled to hear). She still needs to patch 2 hrs/day for the next year probably. Everything is ok though, and she is adjusted to her new lenses well. They said her vision could continue to deteriorate until she is around 9-12 years old and then probably level off and maybe improve a bit, though the doc said she is one of the more severe cases of accommodative esotropia she has seen (yay....).
Oliver went back in for his six month eye check up and he is still far-sighted but definitely nothing like Gabrielle. He is accommodating a lot right now - before dilation he measured about a +1 and dilated he measured about +3.5-4. She wants to check him again in six months; he may end up in a prescription but not sure.
AND....I got a full time job. I'm the Corporate Health Consultant for Oaklawn Hospital. I'm in charge of the new occupational health and corporate health program for Marshall and surrounding areas. I'm a week in and I think it should be a great opportunity. The program is planned to go live in about a month so there is lots of planning and implementation going on right now. The two department heads I work most closely with are very kind, smart, and level-headed so that is wonderful.
The kids started full time at a child development center. Gabrielle is in preschool, obviously, and her room is huge and nice and they have an actual preschool teacher. There are only about 9 or 10 kids in her class, she actually takes a NAP there (hasn't really napped since about 2.5) and honestly loves it there. She not exhausted or doesn't have any anxiety at all.....it is really great. Oliver on the other hand, doesn't love it so much. He eats and sleeps well there, thankfully, but otherwise likes to held a lot so far. He doesn't cry all day or anything but he likes to be held for a while, plays for a bit, gets whiny, and is held more. They seems to be great there and devote a lot of attention to him. His room is huge also with not a ton of kids (which I love) and they have two huge windows and a ramp and balcony they can climb and go on.
Overall things are going well and nick is getting used to being getting them ready and out the door by himself in the morning and taking both of them to gymnastics/eye doctor/dance/etc by himself after work. I have a two hour commute each day and worked a couple of extra long days this week.
We are also speedily working on get our house pretty, clean, and decluttered to get on the market asap so I don't have said two hour commute each day. Wish us luck.
A pipe burst in our basement a few weeks ago due to freakishly cold temps so we woke at 3am to our basement flooding from the ceiling down. Not so fun at the time, but nothing important was ruined and insurance is getting us a new basement. It's all good.
So that's our life lately!
