Oliver Maxwell - 2 Years Old!

Oliver, I can't believe my sweet baby boy is two years old.  You still don't seem two - I don't know if it's because you're the baby or because you're a mommy's boy but I still see you as a giant baby! You are becoming a little less quirky......a little more like a real boy.  You never crawled, never took a bottle, never really ate baby food, love to be held (though you either refuse or insist on it now a days.....but you have a strong opinion it).  I could never imagine loving a little boy so much, and I never imagined you when I found out I have was having a boy.  You are so lovable, quirky, and cute and I love everything about you!  I never imagined I would buy gaudy Elmo pajamas or ugly basketball sippy cups for my child, but I find myself searching for these things because I know you will love them haha!
  • He is obsessed with sports - loves watching it on TV, playing with balls - anything with sports he loves.  He still loves looking at pictures of balls, wearing anything with sports ball on it (ugh), and he loves to draw circles.
  • He also loves to write and draw.  Drawing with pens and paper are his favorites.  He also likes writing with markers.  He draws little tiny circles with pens.....so funny.
  • He doen't
  • Oliver can do a somersault all by himself a 1.5 years!
  • He says the cutest "mommy are youuu???" when he's looking for me
  • Hates water, dirt, glue, anything "dity".
  • He is starting to have this lovely practice of laying flat on his stomach with his hands over his face when he is supposed to be doing something he doesn't want to do.  This can be anywhere.....the store, the doctor's office, at home.  It's his go to move :/
  • One time he also walked up to me, hit me, and said "I wanna go time out" and walked away......
  • Has never had a hair cut..  he needs a little trim/shape desperately but I'm still trying to win Nick over on that.  He has the most beautiful blonde hair :)
  • Loves his "doga", his blue and brown blanket he has had since he was born.  He has lots of different sized "dogas" and he now wants "little doga" or "big doga".
  • He is also just starting to love his (only) stuffed animal - his dog.
  • His favorite colors are orange, pink, and purple.  He really likes princesses and jewelry like his sister - anything she has he loves.
  • Repeats anything we say (which can be funny) and says "mommy luh you!" whenever I tell him "mommy loves you".
  •  Can say his whole name at 1.5 years - Oli-bear Taylor!
  • He figured out how to carry his little wooden chair to the counter in the kitchen and climb up to get things.
  • He had his first dentist appointment in July at 1.5 years and did as badly as I expected.  He didn't want the dentists to come near him and he threw the toothbrush across the room when they gave him one.  He screamed while the dentist looked in his mouth.  Everything looked good though!
  • He finally lets me brush his teeth when he got close to 2.  Before I literally had to put him in a headlock on the floor - hold his arms with one hand and brush his teeth with the other while he screamed.  Now he's good though.....when I'm done he says "Oliver's turn!
  • Loves coloring with markers and pens so he can draw little "o's"
  • His favorite toys are balls by far.....that's really all he's interested in other than drawing.  He likes bigger toy cars he can push too.
  • Also loves Elmo, Mickey Mouse, Dora, and Sofia.
  •  He's still a sweetie at heart.  He still runs up to his Grandmas with his arms up and wants to be held.
  • Of course loves to play catch.  Says "Mommy sit floor play catch up and down!".  He likes me to sit across the room from him and throw the ball big at him - not roll it across the floor......
  • Has a big conversation after I lay him in his crib.....first he lists all of his sports then talks gibberish for a while then says "nyny love you", blows a kiss, and puts his finger to his mouth to "shhhh" me.
  • Knows when he went #2 and doesn't really like it......say's "mommy I poopy" and stands there very awkward like.  He likes to sit on the potty - he'll tell me "I havta go potty!!" but he has not actually gone on the potty.
  • His school says he's the most independent kid in his class.  They say he is also very well behaved - funny since at home his is the most codependent baby ever and has some listening problems sometimes...........
  • Since this summer he says "no no go away mommy, I do it!"  He'd rather fall off whatever he's climbing because he's batting me away than to have me help him.
  • Does not go near any body of water what so ever. I am desperately hoping that changes next year.
  • He's not the best eater still either.  It's a struggle sometimes.  His favorites are fruit leather, tacos, sloppy joes, noodles, meat he can dunk in ketchup, applesauce, soy yogurt, bananas, raisins, and chips.
  • His first favorite book is Elmo Loves You that my mom got him.  His favorites right now are Veggies Tales ABC's and Sofia the First.
  • He loves watching Curious George with his sister - it's the only show they watch.  "Wha Kee Dorea" is what I hear (watch Curious George).  He has recently discovered Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and that is actually his favorite show.  He gets to watch that once in a while and gets so excited.
  • He has recently become obsessed with this blue monster hat with a Mohawk on it.....it's from last year so it's pretty small, but he wears it all day and wears it to sleep.  We can't get any other hats on him or mittens for that matter, but he loves that hat.
  • Makes a joke by putting random things on his head and saying "hat!"
  • Knows his colors pretty well (pink, purple, orange, green, yellow, red, blue) and is doing better couting recently - can count to about 13 (not quite perfectly, but close).  He sings is BINGO, Twinkle Twinkle, Hokie Pokie, Old McDonald, and Let it Go from Frozen. His favorite song is the Hotdog song from Mickey Mouse.
We went to his yearly allergy check up and nothing has changed :/ Skin tests show a large allergy still to milk (just the little scratch on his skin created a large welt and then several other welts appeared all around it), cashew and pistachio are still severe and will have those his whole life.  Peanut seemed to not show up so bad, but he still can't try it.  Shellfish he still cannot have his whole life.  She said chances are kids will outgrow their milk allergy but we just don't know when - not year though!

Oliver really enjoyed his birthday party.  We had a taco bar and had grandparents, Grandma Pat, Aunt Beth, Aunt Penny and Isla, and Jason and Isaiah.  Oliver also really liked his presents.  He doesn't really have any toys other than balls, so it was nice that he got some "boyish" toys that he actually liked.  He got a giant race car tower, t-ball (he yells "I play baseball!!" as he whacks the ball), CAT remote truck, blocks, dinosaurs, books, Batman car and motorcycle, and a set of bowls that turn into balls (which he loves and drives us crazy).

He loves waffles we make!  He's never had them before, but we make them with soy milk and he can't get enough!

Very surprisingly he liked the pumpkin!  He picked all the seeds out and threw them one by one into the kitchen sink................

Oliver was Darth Vader.  Of course he wouldn't wear the mask.  He barely wore the jumpsuit......Nick was able to get him in it.  He had to carry his basketball too of course....

Cousins Isaiah, Oliver, Isla, Gabrielle
We went trick or treating with Kaylyn and Keagan too - it was an awful night - super cold and windy.  We out for a bit, though the kids didn't have an exceptionally fun time.  They got candy though!  Oliver loves sugar candy - he can have skittles, twizzlers, starbursts, suckers, etc.

Oliver Maxwell's 2nd Birthday Party!!!

I didn't go crazy with decorations - we had lots of blown up balloons on the floor and I got him big Mickey Mouse and sports helium balloons

He had to get his markers out and color in the middle of his party.....

Isla tackled him

He showed sudden interest and skill in this old puzzle which distracted him for a bit.....

He did pretty well opening his presents- he had quite a few!

This was hilarious......in the middle of opening presents he got a card with some money and a little plastic soccer ball.  He opening pulled the ball our of the bag and screamed "soccer ball" and ran away and started playing with it and throwing it in his basketball hoop for about 15 minutes before we could get him refocused.

It was great having Gabrielle - she was a really good helper.  She got the paper started for him and helped him when he needed it.
