26 Weeks, Family Reunion, & Puppy Drama...

Well, I'm 26 weeks along now with our little one and things are pretty uneventful on the pregnancy front. At my 25 week check-up the belly measured 25 centimeters and her heart rate was 144. It's hard to believe she used to have a heart rate of around 180 at 8 and 9 weeks - it just shows how big she is getting! I did my gestational diabetes test today and will hopefully have the results back tomorrow. I'm assuming we are in the clear with that issue, but you never know! We bought our crib a couple of weekends ago, so that is Nick's next project to put that together and actually get her room started a little bit. It's is all cleared out and only has her few outfits so far hanging in the closet.

We have been a little bit preoccupied this week, however, with our canine baby Maverick. We were out of town last weekend for our unofficial family reunion with the McCallums in Alpena. On Friday while we were gone, our house sitter accidentally left a rotisserie chicken out while he was at work....and needless to say Maverick ate it. We thought he was going to be ok - he didn't seem in distress or pain so the vet said it should probably work itself out. After a few days of sporadic vomiting and diarrhea we decided to get him to the vet Tuesday morning.

The preliminary x-ray didn't show any chicken bones in his system, only a bunch of gas. She said they wouldn't be able to see any string or other object possibly obstructing him with the x-ray so they tried an antacid and antibiotic to see if that helped him. That night he had some "extreme excretion issues" which resulted in him passing some string, plastic, and sticks. After that, he has not had any other problems though! They gave him some barium and another x-ray to see if his system was clear and functioning, which it was. He has been eating, drinking, and "excreting" normally so we think he should be ok. Three days and two nights at the vet, two medications, and a special diet later our Mav is back home with us and expected to have a full recovery.

Well, back to our family reunion! Nick and I went up to Alpena for a couple of days to get together with some family. My Uncle Rex and Aunt Wanda were here from Germany, my Uncle Doug was in from Colorado, cousins came from Florida and Arizona, as well as the rest of the family from around Michigan were able to meet up. It was so nice to see everyone since that only happens once every 1-5 years or so! Below is a picture of my Dad and his siblings, as well as Nick and I with my aunt and uncle from Germany.

I will be back in a week or two with more updates!
