Say It Isn't So

So....Gabi has had a rash on some combination of her chin/face/chest/stomach for a good month now. It was looking pretty bad the other day so I took her into her pediatrician. The doc really didn't know what to think. She thinks it is eczema but the timing of it is somewhat close to when she started her rice cereal so she wants to be sure that the rice isn't causing problems. Now, it would be almost impossible that Gabi is allergic to rice. It is the very first food babies start on for a reason - because NO ONE is allergic to rice. The doc said to take her off of the rice for five days and see how the rash looks then. She gave me a scrip for a few days of oral steroids if the rash is still bad after being off of the cereal. If it looks better off of the cereal then she said to keep her off of it for a few more days and then reintroduce it. In the mean time Gabi is living on formula and green beans and is not happy about it. She was not a fun little lady to be around yesterday and we had kind of a rough night last night. Ugh. In addition to being off of rice Gabi is getting a good lathering of Vaseline and we are switching her to totally hypoallergenic oatmeal lotion. So long Johnson & Johnson sweet smelling pink baby lotion.....

Also while we were at the doctor I had her look in Gabi's ears to check things out because she has been pulling on her right ear a lot lately. I assumed that she just found her ears and liked to pull on them - if they were really infected I'm sure sweet Gabrielle would let us know :) Both of Gabi's ears looked wonderful and perfectly healthy! Woohoo! The doctor was very impressed that being a November baby Gabrielle hasn't had any ear infections or major illnesses, only a couple of minor colds.

At 5 months and 1 week old Gabi was rocking it in the 33rd percentile for weight at 14lbs 4oz. Our itty bitty is staying consistent in her growth. I'm not sure how tall she was. They didn't measure her and I wasn't about to ask since they were running 45 minutes behind in their appointments already and Gabi was less than thrilled to be there.

I'll be back with updates on rash. Exciting times, I know!
