Gabrielle - Summer 2013

Wow, so summer has come and gone already.  Gabrielle has been growing up so fast and had a wonderful summer.

She started gymnastics classes for the first time at Red Cedar Gymnastics in Lansing.  They keep those little kids super busy in class, which I love.  They have them walking on parallel bars, jumping on trampolines, walking and doing all sorts of things on balance beams, swinging on rings, doing summersaults, learning cartwheels, and walking their feet into a handstand.  Gabs is bit timid in class (it's kind of funny the terrified look she has) but always does everything and claims to love gymnastics!  She just started the fall session of classes and got the "Best Listener Award" at her first fall class.

She also did a session of dance this summer.  She had a new teacher, the studio owner.  I got this email from her teacher after her first summer class:

Okay, so I am SO excited to have Gabrielle in class. I thought she was the cutest little peanut ever last year, but man, I had NO idea.
She is SO adorable. I just talked with Shannon and she said she is one of the most well behaved attentive kids ever. You can tell she loves dance. Even at that age (some people think you can't tell) but you can see when a child loves what they're doing. She was a star in my class today. =)

I see why parents "brag" about their kids' accomplishments - it's not that you think your kid is Einstein, it's that any morsel of validation that you're not a complete screw-up of a parent and your kid isn't a delinquent is what keeps you going.

She also did swim lessons at the beginning of the summer.  These were her first lessons just with other kids and an instructor instead of mommy and me.  She did awesome and really enjoyed the water, as usual.  She can now swim with floaties all by herself and can put her face in the water.  She's our little fish.

-She loves sugar.  Jelly beans, cotton candy, and marshmallows are her favorites.
-Loves Curious George
-Definitely is picky about her clothes now.  She picks out what she wears every day, and we do end up fighting if she picks out something horrendous because I'm not the cool mom that lets my kid pick out crazy outfits and wear them.  Mostly only wears dresses, skirts, leggings, and "girly" cotton shirts.
-Loves bugs, worms, turtles, fish.
-Loves mermaids, princesses, Barbie, My Little Pony.
-Favorite colors are purple (still), black, and pink.
-Spends her free time dancing on her "stage" (the wood floor in our living room), changing leotards/costumes in her "dressing room" (the kitchen), and playing music for herself on the TV or dancing along with her recital DVD.
-She went tubing for the first time(s) this summer with me.
-Loves her scooter and goes so fast around our neighborhood.  Other people call her "scooter girl" :)
Other interests are playing Candyland, doing Play doh, art, designing clothes, reading books
Gabrielle had her first day of preschool on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.  She is the 3-4 year old class MWF mornings for 2hrs 15min.  She was really excited about going and did well in class.  When we got in the car to go home she has a little breakdown.

"I didn't have a good day at school"
Why?
"I didn't eat enough breakfast"
You're hungry?
* Nods head and starts to cry*

Did you make new friends today?
"No.  I looked really hard but I just couldn't find any friends."

Like everything else, I think it will just take her a little bit of time to get used to it.  I talked to her teacher today (3 weeks in) and asked how she was doing.  Teacher said she was doing really well, called her a "floater" because she talks to all the other kids a lot - not just one or two people.  Said she loves her art (of course) and does that whenever they have free time.  Listens really well and gives other kids the side-eye when they're acting out.  Good report!

Gabs dance class last year

Eating cereal with milk.  Not a huge fan.

She plays computer games at PBS Kids

Made her frog a wrap to go for a walk, just like I have for Oliver :)

1st day of Gymnastics!

Likes to make jewelry

With Kaylyn and cousin Landyn at Isaiahs 1st birthday party

Swimming in Aunt Penny's pool!

She likes "designing" her own dresses

Her dance pictures from last year!  I curled her hair in small ringlets with lots of hair spray, and this is how it looked an hour later.  Definitely didn't get my hair!

Loves her brother more than anything.  Always keeps and eye on what he can eat, what he can play with, and loves to make him laugh (which is easy because he idolizes her).

Having hot chocolate

Grandma Billie took her to the Princess Party in town to meet REAL princesses.

At the Taylor reunion a couple of hours later.  It was a full day.
She said she has three daughters, Cinderella, Ariel, and Yellow B.

She set up a dinner party with her princesses and animals

Likes doing her puzzles.  There are usually tears along the way but loves when they're finished.

New careseat!  Her last one she'll need, technically!

Loves Lego castle sets!

She did lots of artwork and taped them to her wall herself........
